“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed…” – Lamentations 3:22 (NIV)
That moment when a ‘storm’ hits our door by a phone call, a diagnosis, a betrayal that turns life upside down, what do we do? In an instant, the mountains of our security, whether our health, finances, or relationships, begin to shake. And our instinct is panic, not prayer.
But God speaks directly into our fear through Isaiah 54:10 (NIV), saying: “Though the mountains be shaken…yet My unfailing love for you will not be shaken.” Our Father doesn’t promise to stop the storm, but He promises something better: an unshakable covenant of peace that remains even when everything else falls apart.
Psalm 46:1 (NIV) reminds us that “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” Not a distant helper. He is in the ‘storm’ beside you, my friend. You will still hear the wind, but you no longer have to stand in the open, taking the full force of the blast.
You’re asking, “How do I access this ‘peace’?” Philippians 4:6-7 gives us the antidote to anxiety: prayer, petition, and thanksgiving. Thanksgiving may feel impossible in the storm, but I often remember God’s past faithfulness. When we bring our fears to God with open palms rather than clenched fists, something supernatural happens. A ‘peace’ “which transcends all understanding,” stands guard over our hearts and minds.
This ‘peace’ doesn’t make sense to the world. Logically, you should be devastated, but God’s peace is not the absence of waves; it is the presence of Christ in the boat with you. So, stop fighting the ‘wind.’ Pray the ragged prayer. Thank Him for His constant presence and faithfulness. And let His unshakable love hold you steady until the storm passes. He can!
